This recent interview with Zynga CIO Debra Chrapaty highlights some of the benefits of private versus public cloud as Zynga leveraged the public cloud until they reached a certain scale and then migrated to a more custom private cloud, thanks to the Green Data Center Blog.

Debra also cited a 3X benefit in infrastructure driven by optimization, knowledge of workflows, etc. She praised the public cloud as an important part of Zynga’s evolution but also recognized their need to own their base.
